Noordervroon - Nature

Nature reserve Noordervroon is a beautiful and dynamic coastal landscape between Westkapelle and Domburg, directly behind the sea dike. A paradise for walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers and anyone who loves peace, space and pure coastal nature.
Unique coastal landscape full of life
The Noordervroon consists of a varied landscape of salt marshes, mudflats, creeks and shallow pools.
- Saline nature: Discover sea aster, sea lavender and glasswort that colour the landscape purple and green in summer.
- Bird paradise: Breeding and resting area for numerous waterbirds such as avocets, redshanks, shovelers and shelducks.
- Migratory birds: Countless waterbirds breed or rest here. Especially in spring and autumn, an impressive migration with spoonbills, pintails and godwits.
- Protected nature reserve: In 2007, the farmland and meadows behind the sea dike were transformed into this water-rich nature area. It is managed by Staatsbosbeheer and is part of the Natura 2000 network.
- Natural transition zone: The Noordervroon forms a gradual transition between polder, dunes and sea.
Birdwatching along the coast
For bird lovers, the Noordervroon is a true must-see. There are several observation points, including:
- Viewing screen at the Slaakweg: Perfect for quiet birdwatching along the shallow pools.
- Observation post Westkapelle: A covered bird-counting post designed so that you are always sheltered from the wind. Rare seabirds are spotted here each year, such as gannets, kittiwakes, skuas, auks and even puffins.
- View from the sea dike: Beautiful view across the area and the North Sea. Known for spectacular sightings of seabirds such as gannets, auks, guillemots and sometimes even puffins or shearwaters.
