Bunker Museum

The Bunkermuseum in Zoutelande consists of two restored German Atlantic Wall bunkers in the dunes by the Het Pauwtje beach crossing. One of them is furnished as it was during the war.
What can you expect at the Bunkermuseum?
- History: The bunkers were part of the German coastal defences. In September 2000 the personnel bunker was excavated and then fully restored by Stichting Bunkerbehoud.
- Inside: You see the reconstructed living quarters with table, chairs and bunk beds, weapons, photos and scale models.
- Highlights: Highlights of the Bunkermuseum are:
- The type 502 personnel bunker for 20 soldiers, furnished as in wartime.
- The type 143 observation bunker on a 45 metre dune, with a 20 tonne steel cupola and views over beach and sea.
Practical information
- Season: Open in season, roughly from early summer to mid October, on Sunday afternoons and some Wednesdays. Guided tours can be booked almost all year.
- Good to know: The bunkers are partly outdoors; the observation bunker on the dune is not wheelchair accessible. You can also climb up via the steps behind the hotels on the edge of the dunes.
- Surroundings: The museum is on the bunker route along the Walcheren coast, close to Zoutelande beach.
The Bunkermuseum shows how soldiers lived on the Zeeland coast, with a superb view as a bonus.
Furthermore Bunker Museum is near the following sights: Dunes of Zoutelande (±750 m), Hoge Hilt (±1,0 km), Salsa Terra Forest (±1,1 km), Forest Biggekerke (±1,8 km) & Forest Boudewijnskerke (±3,0 km).
